  • Discover Asmara’s lesser known neighborhoods and markets, from the berbera-making factories to the metal recycling where objects get a second lease on life. Explore the haunting tank cemetery with an impressive array of war remains and the utopian Asmara Expo.

  • Soak in the most important religious festival in the country, Timkat, a celebration like no other. Spend the day wandering the festival’s main festivities and visiting the most important shrines in the capital.

  • On the road south, stroll through small villages with remains of Italian colonial architecture and visit the archaeological ruins of Metera and Qohaito.

    We will explore a spectacular canyon with rock art and tribal communities.

  • Experience the quaint Eritrean small town lifestyle, where imposing architecture seems out of place and hospitality is at its best.

  • Travel to the port city of Massawa to explore the majestic abandoned Ottoman and Italian buildings and learn about this ancient port’s connection to the sea.

  • Start the day visiting the ancient town of Adulis and meet extraordinary semi nomad tribal communities.

    Spend the afternoon learning about the details in Massawa’s mosques and old palaces.

  • Get to know the most curious, secret places in Massawa, then travel back to Asmara stopping in abandoned train stations and stopping in little villages along the way.

    Taste the unique corn injera in Ghinda, then continue through the scenic road through the clouds into the capital.

  • Visit the famous Keren camel market and enjoy the beautiful arid views of this quintessential Eritrean commercial town.

  • Travel back to Asmara and visit the last standing icons in the city, a visual journey for the last day with special emphasis on photography.

  • The quality of accommodation in Pakistan may not be of the same standard you are used to back home. The standard for this Expedition is that of small, locally run hotels with breakfast and amenities included. We do guarantee the best accommodation option (in security, cleanliness, and comfort) available during this Expedition.

    Accommodation is of double occupancy. If requested, a single supplement of 900€ applies.

    The Ylem Expedition Company is not responsible for the unavailability of the designated accommodation options, but will ensure Guests stay in next available option of the same quality standards.

  • Insurance is contracted on behalf of every individual guest and is only valid for the duration of the expedition.

  • International flights are not included. Each guest is responsible for securing any travel arrangements to and from Asmara, although we provide assistance in booking.

    We strongly advise booking flights reaching Asmara on the morning of the first day of the Expedition and departing the night of the last day of the itinerary, or the morning after.

    The Ylem Expedition Company is not responsible for any flight delays or cancellations that may impact a Guest’s itinerary, but will provide assistance in finding alternatives and making sure it affects the trip as little as possible. Because your individual insurance policy on this trip only covers the days in Eritrea, we advise the purchase of insurance with your flights.
